    Jesse & Frank James emerge from the Continental Hotel & Restaurant. The brothers bought a pair of horses on the historical town square of Centerville. They spent the night at the Lepper Home before robbing the Ocobock Bank in Corydon, IA. and making their mark in the history books.

  • Francis Marion Drake 1896-1898

    Francis Marion Drake a Centerville native was the 16th Governor of the state of Iowa. Francis Drake, the founder of Drake University in Des Moines, IA, built a library in Centerville, IA.

  • Norma Talmadge 1922

    Movie actress appeared in Love’s Redemption, It’s A Wonderful Life. This movie was film on the Centerville Square.

  • Fred Burke 1930

    Main machine-gunman of the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. Fred Burke entered the Centerville Court House under an assumed name of Richard F. White and acquires a marriage certificate and marries Centerville native Bonnie Porter on the historic town square.

    Centerville native and jockey Mack Garner rode Cavalcade to win the Kentucky Derby in 1934.

  • Albert Lodwick 1937

    Mystic Native. Albert managed Howard Hughes flight around the world. Albert I. Lodwick (pictured above) was born in Mystic, Iowa on March 4, 1904. Hughes set a world record for around the world flight of 3 days, 19 hours and 14 minutes.
